Break Up
The sea ice in our bay has gone. Now in a normal year this would occur towards the end of June, and last over a couple of days as the tide sweeps the ice out only to bring it back twelve hours later. But this year the ice seems to have disappeared in one fell swoop.
I took the picture last year about this time in Ivujivik, a town about 90 kms west of here, and the absolute most northernly community in Quebec.

Global warming?
That's the ticket - simply breath taking Nanuk!! Great picture.
Very pretty. I can imagine you would be a good source on whether global warming is truth or not.
Awesome photo! Thank you for sharing Nanuk!

Geez, now you're going to start up all the GW people and CNN will be up there and they'll just trample the environment they're trying to save until the next big story comes along and think of all the tourists conming to see the "last days" of the arctic wilderness ...shhh!
Has something else broken up and you're waiting for the right time to tell us? Seems like a long time since you last posted... Hope all is well.
You can't find the shade of blue you see in glacial or pack ice anywhere else - a shame really as it is one of my favorite colors...
Ice in summer is just so wrong.
